As I sit back and reflect on the last 12 months of my life I see excitement, discouragement, disappointment, low confidence, disobedience, life lessons, spiritual maturity, friendships ended, revived relationship with God, personal fear, heartache, loneliness, pride, and anger. I could go on and on with the words that has describe my year of ups and downs because like you I have had a lot of twist and turns in my life in 2016. As my late great mom (Diann Davenport) would always say, “the enemy is always lurking to steal, kill, and destroy”, John 10:10. However, what I have learned in my journey to get a closer relationship with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is that the enemy has already lost and as long as you put God First everything will work out for the good of the Lord!
During disappointment, pain and heartache, I remembered God’s promise in James 1:12, “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him”. If you are reading this and going through some hard times or worried about the outcome of a situation, then remember what James said because God doesn’t lie nor forget his promises. You may have made a mistake but if you have truly repented to God with all your heart you have already been forgiven and what you have prayed and ask for is already done. I say all this to you in the name of JESUS. Yes, my own trials and tribulations has brought me closer to the Lord because I know that all the answers that I have ever needed was with him, in the playbook of LIFE. The things that God has done for me are so amazing that people can’t believe that I’m the same person they knew 12 months ago. I stop drinking, watching things that polluted my mind, stop using bad language and most of all stop believing/depending in people but believing/depending on God. God has a way of humbling you if you submit to his will and walk down the path of righteousness he has set forth in front of you. Proverbs 22:4 sums it up, “Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life. I can honestly tell you that I love the lord and never want to displease him in any way again. I jokingly tell my wife that reading the old testaments made me fear God even more because the things that happened in those books are scary. Thank god for the New Testament…and JESUS CHRIST dying on the cross for our sins, Praise God!
However, I know that I will fall short everyday but I now have a better sense of discernment because I have been born again and the Holy Spirt is within me. I’m going to tell you that once I started truly emerging myself in the word (bible) my entire life and outlook on life, things, people, and the world changed. I still get angry or upset with things but I don’t respond the way I use to because I know that Jesus in watching as well as people who are looking up to me for leadership and guidance (i.e. my sons).
Remember that even though things look like it’s never going to end or workout just remember that if you know Jesus Christ and or Lord God then what every you where promise will come to pass. Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. I hope this has help someone today as much as it has helped me. It’s never too late to come to our Lord Jesus Christ. Happy New Year and make 2017 a victorious year.
